Last year the major talk of the fashion world was the rapid weight loss of our beloved models but now it is the lack of representation of African Americans in the fashion industry. Despite our diverse looks and influential culture we still receive no love. Its unfortuanate because in every aspect of LIFE we have so much to offer. As a model, stylist, and fashion critic this upsets me.
Its weird to hear that someone of such great talent and respect such as Naomi Campbell still can't land a cover in Paris.
It causes an individual to ask "why" when you aren't able to see at least 2 black models grace the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week. It causes despair to know that ethnic no longer means of African decent. Its weird to know that in order for a person of color to grace a page or a catwalk they are mixed or African. This then poses the question, "what about Africans living in America?" Are we not beautiful....
Don't get me wrong, I am excited to see dark skin images of women like Alek Wek make major moves in the industry. It is faces like hers and other Africans who will set a standard and open doors for future beautiful women to come. But is the fashion world so behind in times that they don't recognize that our beauty comes in all shades and we r everywhere in the world, or are they intimidated by it??

I would like to thank Tyra Banks for being strong in this thing called fashion and creating Next Top Model. It allowed women in America to have a chance.

Peace...
