well well well lovelies… it’s time for breathe’s fall beauty preview! missK blessed us with a fall fashion preview, so I wanted to give you guys time to let your wallets recuperate. now it’s time to dive glossy lips first, into falls beauty trends.
if you’re like me, you kinda stay away from trends… or incorporate them into your OWN sense of beauty style. beauty style, what the heck is that?
anyway, I digress…
so let’s get to these trends before my a.d.d. gets outta hand! lol.
trend # 1 – RED LIPS!!!
red lips are soooooooooooo all the rage in haute chickville. the funny thing about red lipstick is that – all women can wear it, but most are afraid to. a friend of mine (YES YOU TAMARA RACHELLE!) taught me how to wear it… the key is finding the right shade for your complexion & undertones. try it with smokey eyes, nude eyes, dramatic eyeliner (my all time fave - think 1950's pin up girl, when big girls were IN STYLE! lol) it’s all about trial & error. so go buy some cheap red lipstick & $1 lip liner and get to trying some variations until you get it right.

trend # 2 – SMOKEY EYES & NUDE LIPS!!!
THIS IS HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE TREND OF THE SEASON!!! I love love love smokey eyes… and nude lips are just TRES CHIC! that’s French for – real real real haute! it’s a way to stand out, and get all of the attention in the room, without being TOO made up (as if there is such a thing! THAT’S BLASPHEMY!) but the wonderful thing about this look is that you can get creative and use different colors (not just black or grey)! I’ve used green, blue, pink, brown… it’s an opportunity for you to create “your look” for smokey eyes. I DARE YOU TO TRY IT!!!

trent # 3 – NUDE FACE!!!
this trend is great for women that do NOT like to wear make up at all & don’t enjoy being “made up”. it does require you to put on some powder, or concealer, or just foundation. this look does not equal NO MAKE UP ON FACE AT ALL. because that is just what it is… NO MAKE UP. this look is a polished, nude face. a clean & EVEN canvas. FLAWLESS. which usually calls for some foundation & powder to even out your skintone. it doesn’t have to be heavy, but it needs to be even. AND MATCH YOUR NECK, but that’s a WHOLE ‘nother blog entry, right? RIGHT! for this look, all you need is an even canvas, mascara, lip gloss or nude lipstick (preferably with a nude pencil, or one a half shade darker than your lipstick), and POSSIBLY eyeliner (for the rim of your eyes – the lower rim that is).

these are the three MAIN trends for Fall 2007, however there are some other trends that are going to be popular this season.. they are…
bright lip color – play with all types of colors. orange, pink, berry, purples… it just needs to be LOUD & BRIGHT!!!!

sage green shadow – you can do sage or olive. play with it. sage looks better matte (as in no shimmer/satiny look/frost), while olive looks better WITH shimmer/satin/frost (although that sounds horrid).
berry lip color – this is a standard fall trend. berried lips (how cute) are a fall staple. do them matte (no gloss, no shimmer), or do berry satins & glosses!

so. now are we ready ladies? get out there and work on those looks… if you don’t want to spend a lotta money… try walgreens/walmart/target – you’d be surprised what you can find… and if you DO like to spend dinero on make up… I recommend you go to the drugstore/grocery store to try out some things before you spend your big bucks. once you find a look you like. take those items to your favorite expensive make up counter & MATCH THEM UP!!!
go forth my beauties… go forth and paint thy faces. paint paint paint!
stay tuned... next, beauty on a budget & product reviews!!!
and remember to color your world the way YOU love to see it!!!!
when i speak of AAA, please note i am not speaking about the wonderful automobile roadside assistance program! i'm talking about the AAA system for oneself... see, any & everybody can put on vats of makeup and expensive garments to cover up - or distract the masses from seeing who and/or what they really are... since i talk about beauty, i had to speak on true beauty.beauty is not a superficial thing... it's a little deeper than that. now, i won't be cliche' & go into the whole concept of beauty on the inside... i'm going to go a different route.basically, NO MATTER HOW MUCH MAKE UP AND GUCCI YOU WEAR - IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE TRULY A BEAUTIFUL PERSON... well, honey - even though you think you are hiding it... everyone will see that. some people can't seem to grasp what that is, or how to do it... here's what worked for me....i had to accept that i am what/who i am. this is the way God has made me, with my so called "flaws" & all (flaws, what the heck is that anyway - if God made me this way how can i be flawed)... but i digress ...next i had to acknowledge my wonderfulness (i make up words often). all of the things that i, at one time, did not particularly like about myself... acknowledge your differences, what makes me unique - those things make me BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN! (as jill scott said) i learned to embrace all of those things... it makes me who i am! and i AM beautiful me! (and you are beautiful you!)lastly... i had to begin to admire my greatness. admire who i am. we have to admire our lips , eyes, ear, teeth, feet, belly, hips, thighs, hair, neck, bootie, nose, and skin... ALL of those things... ADMIRE those things. admire what makes you stand out in a room full of people... love that you are the ONLY you in the world, the only one! THAT ALONE IS AMAZING & WORTH CELEBRATING!!!! so. finally... just practice loving yourself... and if you DO already love yourself... learn to love you MORE. THAT DOES NOT MEAN, hate others... or think you are better than others, or look down upon other people... but it means to focus on what makes you wonderful, beautiful, and FABULOUS! God made you the way you are for a reason... so start loving you... acknowledge who you are, accept what you have, and ADMIRE ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT MAKE YOU, YOU...and until next time... color your world the way YOU love to see it!!!peace folks...the crayola kid.have you done your AAA today?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~take note of this:My Declaration of Self Esteem
I am Me.
In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it.
I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or to myself.
I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes.
Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By so doing, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts.
I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know -- but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me.
However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought, and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which I discarded.
I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do.
I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me.
I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me.
I am me, and I am Okay.

you must truly love you, before you can love anyone else.
So last night I decided to browse through the September issue of Ebony to look at and read about inspirational black individulas. I needed something to take my mind off of all of the race issues that have been discussed on every news station in town...

Anyway... a 6 foot 1 blond hair brown eyed beauty caught my eye. Descripyion ringing bells?? If not, then you need to do your research. Its Audrey Smaltz. From 1970 to 1978 she was the voice of Ebony Fashion Fair. For years she wowed audiences with her melodious voice, avant garde style and French accent when it deemed neccessary...lol. After 7 years of commentating she went on to start her own fashion show production company called the Ground Crew. So I did my research and yes the Ground Crew is the IT crew when it comes to fashion shows. Their tasks include dressing models, catering, tailoring and steaming as well as coordinating music for the shows. They work with mostly all of the top designers houses for Fashion Week and have corporate gigs during the year also. Makeup artist, designers, and all fashion heads would give anything to work under Ms. Smaltz. Eventhough the pay is only $10.00 an hour, I would quit my "good gov't job" just to be trained under Audrey Smaltz...I mean who wouldnt????
welcome to the crayola kid's beauty brain matter. i'd like to introduce myself - we will call me, the crayola kid, the chick with an eye for colors. yup. that's me. i personally believe that beauty is an concept created for individual interpretation, and whatever you want to be beauty - is just that... anyway, i'm here to serve as the eyes, ears, and mouth for beauty, health, and things of that nature...
we all know that autumn is vastly approaching, and all of us haute chicas must prepare for the upcoming season. we must get our ready for the weather change, make sure our make up game is on point, as well as figure out what we will do with our hair... personally i LOVE autumn, it's my favorite of all the seasons... why - ALL THE COLOR!!!!!!! red, green, yellow, brown, orange, blue, grey - and nature gives us those on her own!
first let's start off with the most important thing when discussing beauty... SKIN! skin is, hands down, the first thing you have to get in order when seasons are changing. For some of us, there will be a MAJOR change in weather. Our skin must be armed with weaponry to sustain the elements... let's start with cleansing....
each and every one of us has different skin. It will fall into one of these categories: dry, normal, oily, combination, or sensitive. lots of times we like to believe we have sensitive skin, but we don't. we are really just using the wrong products. how do we tell what our skin type is, you say? wash your face with a standard bar of soap ( i.e. dove, oil of olay - preferably something unscented to avoid allergic reactions). after washing, let your face dry - if your face is tight when you move it around and make funny faces - you're dry. if it's slightly tight in some areas, combination. if it feels fine, just in need of a little moisture - you probably have normal skin. if it's still shiny or you can feel oil on your skin still (after maybe 5 min with no moisture), you have oily skin. as for the last type, the way to know whether or not you have sensitive skin is to wash your face with a cleanser for normal skin & your face turns red sometimes with some small breakout very soon after cleansing. PLEASE BE ADVISED: JUST BECAUSE YOUR SKIN BREAKS OUT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN. YOU COULD JUST BE USING THE WRONG PRODUCTS. people with sensitive skin USUALLY have to go see a dermatologist regarding their skin & be prescribed special cleansers, OR use cleanser with absolutely no fragrance/dyes.
now that we know how to determine what we should use, let's get to what to do. maintaining healthy skin is actually really simple, there are 3 major steps. the very first thing we must do is:1. DRINK WATER!!! when we are clean and flushed on the inside of our body, it is going to show on the outside of our body. 2. CLEANSE YOUR SKIN3. MOISTURIZEthese things we can never do too much of. these are things our skin need. water, soap, moisture. the end. all of the other steps are really just extra curricular steps for maintenance. these steps may include: toning, exfoliating, using masks, treatments, etc. etc. i actually recommend using an astringent, the best one would be ALL NATURAL WITCH HAZEL. it's great for EVERY LAST ONE OF THE SKIN TYPES! you can get it at any grocery/drugstore and it's only like $3, you can't beat that!!! as for exfoliating, there is another method i have for all skin types that is inexpensive... FACIAL BRUSHES! they sell them at Sally's, The Body Shop, and other retailers - those are the 2 places i purchase mine. facial brushes are only around $3 - $4. as for masks, those are really trial and error... eventually i'll do product reviews, but for now just try a few CHEAP ONES, don't do trial & error with expensive products... IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
now that we've gotten that out of the way, we should be ready to make that trip to our local grocery store or walgreens (because you know cvs & rite-aid are WAY TOO HIGH!) to get some products! yay for clear skin on a budget! until next time kids... in the meantime, color your world just the way you love to see it!peace, the crayola kid!

With all the talk of Fashion Week everyone is wondering what exactly to expect as they sit at the end of the runways in New York. Not only are the new clothing lines a must see but the weight of many models is also. Many question why have some of our beloved models lost so much weight, and the answer is simple: to get the most work.
Some of the top designers in the world feel that the smaller the model the easier it is to work with her. But just think for a second. To be a top model or a working model you have to be at least 5’7” or taller. Imagine being 5’7” or taller and wearing a size zero. It’s unnatural and this is exactly what these girls are striving for. This is being labeled the epitome of perfection in this industry, but to us “outsiders” it’s just a disorder.
These models are not only modeling clothes but also a sickness. They are promoting anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders and bad habits. Many have become chain smokers because smoking keeps the weight off. Many have begun to take on strict and unhealthy diets to stay skinny. Eating lettuce and drinking diet coke for months on end have become a way of life for many of these young girls. This is exactly what happened to Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston who died late last year from an eating disorder. She weighed only 88lbs at the time of her death…
Incidents like this along with protests from women’s rights groups and gasps from audience members caused many fashion organizations to take a stand. The Spanish Association of Fashion Designers stood first. In September Madrid’s Fashion Week banned too skinny models from gracing the catwalk. In December the Italian fashion industry followed in the Spanish’s footsteps. They decided not to hire models younger than 16 and required medical documentation that proved the girls didn’t suffer from an eating disorder.
With the all the controversy about the rapid weight loss the CFDA released a list of recommendations for all models and designers. They basically suggested that younger models stay off of the runway and not work past midnight. The group suggested that models with eating disorders seek professional help and that workshops be developed to educate models and other industry professionals of the cause and effect of these disorders. Lastly, they wish to provide healthy meals and snacks during fashion shows while eliminating chain smoking.
This is exactly what this industry needs. This could be considered the first step to something really big. Even though these “suggestions” aren’t requirements, they stand to create some type of stability for these young girls. Not only are these models’ lives in danger, but so are those who watch and idolize these women. Many young girls, including myself, grow up dreaming to become famous models. The pressure of being thin can alter these dreams and kill the fantasy…or kill the girl. Whoever said that being stick thin was beautiful was WRONG. Being healthy is beautiful and that’s what each designer and model should promote.
