Baltimore's Neo Soul Music Scene- Eric Roberson in Concert

Thanxs Jessica!
Once again Ladies and Gentleman, Baltimore’s leading concert promoter duo has done it again. Last night Neo-soul songwriter/ performer Eric Roberson was at Eden’s Lounge, Baltimore’s premier location for live soul music and entertainment. The night began very smooth and mellow with the soulful sounds of N’delible a new artist from D.C. Now, my friends and I were a bit skeptical about this group and there performance, but the crowd seemed to love their unique style of music. Although the room was filled to capacity with all types of interesting people and lots of conversation, we were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Headliner Mr. Eric Roberson. After minutes of loud instruments and laughter, finally Mr. Roberson came to the stage. With lots of energy and spunk he came to the stage excited and eager to sing for Baltimore. He began the set with a “ Funky Freestyle” that he made up on the spot. It was soo hot!!! In my opinion, Mr. Roberson is the most poetic lyricist that I have ever heard. From the first moment that I heard his music, I thought, “Wow, this man can write.” I have been hooked ever since. Of course like any artist, you must began your show with music that your audience knows to catch there attention. Once he had us, it was over. Every moment the audience was on the edges of their seats waiting to hear the next melodious tune out of the mouth of Mr. Roberson. “Erro”, as he is called by many, has a way of making his audience feel as if he has known them for years. He is so handsome and funny. He just has this boyish charm about him that draws you to him. Mr. Roberson’s music can be classified as a Mezcla (mixture) of gospel, soul, reggae, and pop. He has song’s that cater to everyone. Erro’s music talks about many issues that occur in today ‘s society. His songs rang from talking about Love to focusing on the goodness of Jesus!! When Mr. Roberson was singing you could tell that he really loved his job. As the night went on and he continued to sing, he belted out from his soul some of his greatest hits and new music that the crowd just adored. But, I want to bring to your attention the rearranging of one of his most popular songs, “The Show Must Go On”. For those of you that don’t know, this song’s speaks about his desire to love but also pursue a career and having to make a decision about which one will take precedence in his life. He began singing the song the regular way with a million minor chords (you know the ones that make your ears tickle. Oh how I love them!!!) then, he began to change the melody of the song into an Afro-Meringue type of thing! It was weird. But it was so genius how he would make the songs go from smooth to hard in matter of seconds! Mr. Roberson truly knows how to captivate his audience and get them up dancing and just being happy. The show ended on a very happy note, and the audience was not ready to let him go but, The Show Must Go On to another city!!( lol.) So, in saying that, I am signing off. Once again, Kudos to D. Chase and 2 Tru they have really kept the soul in Baltimore. If you missed the show… well… then sorry for you!
Until Next time….

Holiday Make-Up Trends!!!
in the words of rakim, "it's been a long time, i shouldn't have left you...". well i'm back. and just in time to get you glossed, glammed, and gorgeoused up for the holidays!
i know some of you have holiday events coming up, so let's just dive right on in! a lot of the looks are very similar to the fall looks, with slight revisions - so if you've been wearing some of the hot fall looks we discussed earlier this season, then you are OH SO READY!
first... dramatic cat eyes... there are several ways to obtain this look. play around with it to find what looks best for your face (i.e. color, shaping, intensity)

since we're talking eyes, of course smokey eyes are all the rage in holiday party town! play around with different colors to find that perfect eye for you. this season GREY is the HOT color for smoked out eyes... it's softer than black, but still extremely sexy & sophisticated. when doing a smokey eye, i prefer a nude/neutral lip. meaning it can be nude (see rihanna) or neutral (see kerri washington). you don't want to be make up overkill. do one or the other, but not both - unless that's what you wanna do. in that case, ROCK ON!
rihanna - nude lip

the major theme for this season, especially holiday season is METALLIC MAKE-UP! nail polish, eyeshadow, lipstick... it's all over the place. gold & silver being the biggest hits! after all, the holidays are the perfect time for "silver & gold"... i think that's a christmas song, no i'm positive it is! lol. please click this link and you'll know i'm really holiday tune savvy:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=youiekG2UJA&feature=related
jennifer hudson - silver/white metallic (neutral lip)

jennifer love-hewitt - gold metallic

now let's move onto lips... as stated earlier you don't really wanna do a dark/deep lip with smokey eyes. if you're like me, you LOVE dark lips (mac matte lipstick in veruska being my FAVORITE color) and RED (nars gloss in bloodwork being the best option)lips. so for you ladies, here's a few looks to play with. I LOVE both of these looks!
deep lip color paired with soft frosted shadow

deep red lip paired with matte brown shadow
(snejana onopka)

red lips for all shades of beautiful!

metallic LIPS are in as well. and NOT the metallic look from 1995 - 1998 with black lip liner and gloss on top. DO NOT DO THAT PLEASE. PLEASE. this is more of what i'm talking about. golden metallic MATTE (no shine) lipstick, or a soft golden gloss - nothing too heavy with the gloss option.
metallic lips done RIGHT.

another understated, but sometimes OVERDONE item is glitter. glitter liner and glitter accents on soft eyeshadow can really set the tone. since i don't really have a photo of it, i'll give you an easy DIY for how to do this ...
- apply shadow primer (urban decay has the best)
- apply brow highlighter
- add shadow of choice from lid to under brow (you don't want too much going on with GLITTER)
- add a deeper shade, or another hue into crease or on outside of eye
- BLEND BLEND BLEND inward
- line lash line with liquid or pencil liner (choose the color that will compliment the glitter/glitter liner)
- apply glitter atop liner (liquid or pencil)
- apply mascara (i'm in love with TOO FACED LASH INJECTION)
- add false lashes
- KISS YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR.
now let's not forget the one item that will set your holiday look RIGHT OFF!!! ro
FALSE EYELASHES!!!!
shu uemura kicks butt with their lash collection. they are a tad bit pricey, so of course - you know i had to give my babies options!!!
shu uemura dazzling diamante lashes $ 25.00
(these have real diamonds on them - see madonna)
sephora glitter lashes $8.00
(I LOVE A BUDGET BEAUTY FIND!)

shu uemura false eyelashes luxe $ 20.00

sephora deluxe lash kit $ 18.00
(now for $2 less you get an entire KIT!)

SO HONEYS, take your pick. sephora has an entire LASH BAR, with tons of styles, colors, and lengths to choose from. check them OUT!
just thought i'd throw in what's hot in the nail department. metallic nails & vamp colored nails are really big this season. vamp nails were in last holiday, and well ladies love them so much - THEY ARE BACK! check out these 3 options for your next manicure!
anne hathaway - vamp nails

GOLD METALLIC NAILS WITH GLITTER - LOVE IT!!!!!
not to mention the jewelry is HAUTE!

silver metallic nails
and didn't we talk about that grey smokey eye earlier???
THIS IS A TOTAL PACKAGE!!!!

well my lovelies. it's been fun... i promise to not leave you for that long again! remember to love you, stay true to yourself, and always color your world the way YOU love to see it!!!

What Happened
Last night I attended a highly anticipated anniversary fashion show for a boutique in my city. I was excited to see the fall fashions from this store because I always admired its versatility and uniqueness. The show was deemed to start at 11pm but of course it didnt start until 1130. After such a long wait the show started and to my surprise it was nothing that I expected. Dont get me wrong the clothes were cute...minus a few pieces and the male models were the highlight of the show. The female models were ok but not runway experienced (for a lack of better words).
The show lasted maybe 15 minutes with no grand finale or grand opening. It was actually a disappoinment because I've worked with this store in the past and know that they are capable of so much more. Well thank god for a dj cuz he saved the night banging out hits from Biggie and old school hip hop...It saved the show and my night.
Thought??
On Saturday I was invited to the Grand Opening of the Shops at North and Charles (Thanks D Chase). The Shops at North and Charles represent the first of several black owned indoor malls. It’s complete with 16 retail outlets, including beauty salons, barbershops, law offices, and wireless stores. These shops are apart of the regeneration of the North Avenue corridor in Baltimore City. This event was big for this city and that area. The event started at 1pm with an introduction of the shop owners and the owners of the retail shops located within the space. I was so excited to find out about the Uplifting Minds Resource Center as well as the DChase Art Gallery located within the facility. If anyone knows this area they will know that this type of exposure to art is greatly needed. Immediately after the opening remarks by the "visionaries" the VIP Brunch began...the food looked so good but I didnt eat. I ran my mouth and admired the scenery. Many prospective people in the city came thru. LaMarr Shields did the opening remarks. City Council President Stephanie Rawlings Blake came thru and gave her stamp of approval. Marci Crump of the Flywire came with her staff and Dr. Larry Gaston also made an appearance. It was food, fun, music and a very good time. History was made and I was there to experience it.
